DR is something most organisation rarely think about and almost certainly put off thinking about. DR can be expensive. However the advent of a mature cloud market with many choices of infrastructure as a service (IaaS) has meant that have disaster recovery is both achievable and affordable. There are two major considerations in DR, Time to Recover (Recovery Time Objective RTO) and How much data can a business tolerate losing (Recovery Point Objective RPO). It is now possible through the use of cloud services to have RTO of minutes and RPO of near zero, meaning that a business can continue to operating and have little to no data loss.
Storing and backup of files can be simple and it can be very complex. As soon as you start to share files with people within and external to your organisation, things get complex very quickly. Ensuring that files are properly backed up and available to all the right staff is critical to most organisations. Ensuring you have a storage solution that fits into your disaster recovery and business continuity plans is also critical.
